Introduction to Mindfulness

Participants will learn the elements of mindfulness, learn about anchors in the body and practice using them in a mindful awareness practice. Group reflection will center on using anchors skillfully in practice and in life. In addition, participants will learn about and practice mindful walking.

Mindfulness Mini-series: An Introduction (3-weeks of Offerings)

The Mindfulness Mini-series will be on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. The first course one attends is free and additional courses are $15 a piece. One can register for any combination of courses in the series that are of interest at Click Here for Registration Link.

Mindfulness is being aware in the present moment in a kind, nonjudgmental way. This series will be a basic exploration of how to embody that through formal and informal practices. Participants will learn about the elements of mindfulness, as well as engage in essential mindfulness practices such as open awareness sitting meditation, mindful movement, the body scan, mindful walking, and loving kindness meditation. The first week is free for all participants and following weeks are $15 per course.

I am Jill Stansbury, and I have been studying in spiritual traditions centered around meditation for the last 25 years and practicing with Hindu and Buddhist teachers, as well as at the non-religious Mindfulness Center at Brown University. There I have earned recognition as a  Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program facilitator. I have also learned about scientifically based ways to teach others to skillfully relate to their lives in order to transform the way they relate with discomfort, difficulty, despair, and joy.

In my work, I seek to help people learn tools and build upon their strengths to increase their wellness.  Mindfulness provides individuals with the owner’s manual to the mind/body, and I love sharing that information with others because it has provided me with so much freedom in the face of the challenges and difficulty that life sometimes sends my way. Mental freedom, what some teachers refer to as liberation, is something I hold in great esteem in this life. I feel like it is one of my greatest treasures, and I want to share it!

I am excited to share several opportunities to find out more about Mindfulness that I am partnering with the Human Development Center to bring to the community, the Mindfulness Mini-series and a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8-week Course.
